Today I want to chat about the term “style recipe, which is simply a list of “ingredients” or items needed to make an outfit come together. I like to stay flexible when creating these because even if there are times when you might need the exact item to make the outfit work, just keep in mind that we aren’t actually cooking or baking here, so if one of the outfits or recipes calls for black boots and all you have are black flats, chances are, the overall look is still going to look great!
Quick note: If you are looking for more links to shop from in order to recreate these outfits, I am purposely not sharing a ton because the point of this exercise is to help you look inside your own closet to see if you can find similar items to use, which will allow you to put your own spin on it! I am working with what I have in my closet when I create these outfits, and the hope is that they inspire you to look within your own wardrobe as well and rewear and remix what you already own. That said, if you are in need of any specific pieces and would like some ideas on where to shop, send me a note or leave a comment below and I can help you out.
Styling Exercise:
OK, let’s begin! For each of the five outfits, we are going to start with a black turtleneck as the base or foundation piece. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or too specific, just a simple, plain black turtleneck. Here are a few examples to take a look at if you don’t already own one and would like to add one to your closet.
